Castor Oil Packs

Support lymphatic drainage and detox through this relaxing technique.

Items needed:

  • Cold pressed, organic (hexane-free) castor oil

  • Unbleached cotton or wool flannel cloth

  • Heating pad or hot water bottle

  • Wear old clothes and/or lay on old sheets in case oil drips – it can stain!

Instructions:

  1. Cover the chair, carpet, or bed you will be laying on with an old sheet to prevent stains in case the oil does drip.

  2. Fold pack cloth so it is 3 layers thick (omit this step if using Queen of Thrones cloth)

  3. Saturate the cloth with castor oil (about 2 Tbsp) - the goal is to saturate the cloth but not to dripping. You can squeeze and press the cloth to distribute the oil.

  4. Put the pack (oil-side to the skin) over or just below the belly button. You may also place it on the right upper abdomen just under the rib cage (region of the liver).

  5. Place heating pad or hot water bottle over the cloth (optional).

  6. Relax for 20-30 minutes, either sitting or lying down.

  7. Use this time to do breathing exercises, meditation, or relaxation time. You can put on quiet music, relaxing your body and mind.

  8. To clean your skin afterwards, use baking soda and water to restore normal pH and balance to the skin.

  9. Store the cloth in a glass container for reuse — the cloth may be used 2-3 times before needing washed .

  10. To wash the cloth, soak in hot soapy water. Then, either air dry or put it in the dryer. Remember castor oil can stain other clothes, so it is best to wash by itself.

You can do castor oil packs up to daily, typically 3-4 days in a row then take a day break. Repeat as needed.
