A guide to Coffee Enemas

Experience deeper healing with this technique to support GI and liver health.

WHY COFFEE ENEMAS?

  • Purge the bile from the liver and bile ducts and increase bile flow

  • Activate the Vagus nerve

  • Increase glutathione production (up to 6-7x)

  • Decrease pain

  • Help expels toxins/pathogens, empty colon, and stimulate peristalsis

POINTS TO REMEMBER

  • Insert the tube into the rectum ~6” (six inches, and depending on body type) so it reaches the necessary anatomy

  • Hold the coffee for as long as you can, up to 20 minutes

  • Gently release on the toilet

  • Optimal results are found when doing an enema in the morning after a bowel movement. However, better sleep has been reported when doing a coffee enema before bed (the caffeine does not have the same effect as it would if ingested orally).

The Basic Coffee Enema

Equipment:

Recipe:

  • 4 Tbsp ground coffee

  • 4 cups distilled water

  • 1 Tbsp molasses

Preparing the Solution:

  1. Place 4 Tbsp organic ground coffee into bottom of French Press

  2. Boil 2 cups of distilled water, set the other 2 cups aside

  3. Pour the 2 cups of boiling water into French Press

  4. Add 1 Tbsp of molasses into French Press and stir to dissolve

  5. Let coffee mixture steep for 20 minutes

  6. Pour the steeped solution into 4 cup glass measuring cup and add the additional 2 cups of distilled water, to make 4 cups total

  7. Let cool to room temperature - once cooled is when you will add CT-Minerals and HydrOxygen+ (currently unavailable) if you choose

CAUTION!:

´  Do not force the tube in

´  Avoid too warm/hot of solution when performing enema - be sure it cools to room temperature!

Basic Coffee Enema Procedure

  1. Perform steps of “Preparing the Solution”

  2. Prepare enema bucket by ensuring it is clean and the hose is clamped shut. Fill the bucket with 2 cups of the prepared mixture and hang it at least 3 feet above where you will be sitting or laying (such as on a towel bar).

  3. Lay down on your right side in the fetal position (knees drawn towards chest), on the floor or in the bathtub or shower. You can prepare the area with towels or pillows to make it more comfortable. Another option is to sit on the toilet slightly leaning to one side.

  4. Once you are comfortable enough, insert enema nozzle into rectum roughly 6 inches, you may need to lubricate the nozzle with oil before insertion (coconut oil is a great option). (If you are laying down and having trouble, you can roll over to your left side and once inserted roll back over to right side. This allows gravity to aid in getting solution to where it needs to be.)

  5. Slowly unclamp the hose half-way or release valve halfway and allow solution to flow slowly into the colon. Hold the Coffee solution in for 15 to 20  minutes, or as long as you can (the first couple of times you may not be able to hold for very long).

  6. To finish, remove the nozzle and move to the toilet, and release the solution. It is important that you don’t over push when letting the enema fluid out.

  7. After 5 to 7 minutes repeat steps 4-7 with the remaining 2 cups of solution.

  8. OPTIONAL ADDITIONAL SUPPORT: lay a heating pad over liver area (R upper abdomen) 30 min-1 hour prior to protocol

Additional Coffee Enema Support and Information

When on the toilet:

  • Avoid forcefully pushing

  • May need to sit for 5-10 minutes to release fully

  • Massage the abdomen in clockwise direction

    • At the end of the colon (center and lower abdomen), hold pressure with hands and bend over

  • Additional use of a Squatty Potty or stool

    • Feet up in this position helps to fully relax the tight muscles around the colon, allowing the colon to empty quickly and completely

A Note on Coffee Enema Frequency:

  • Depending on the stage you are at…

    • Early on with health journey: 2-3x/week

    • Later on in the journey: 1-2x/week

    • Maintenance: 1-2x/month

FAQs:

  • Does it need to be air-roasted coffee?

    • MUST be organic (to avoid the addition of more toxins into the body), and the lighter roast the better

  • Why molasses?

    • This helps the liquid to hold longer and optimizes results

  • What if I’m extremely constipated?

    • Have a bowel movement before the enema, do a water enema first if needed

  • It all absorbed and nothing really came out…now what?

    • This is usually a sign that the body is dehydrated and sucked the liquid up from the colon. Do not panic, just breath, relax, and hydrate yourself. You may elect at this point to do an Advanced TUDCA enema by dissolving 1 capsule of TUDCA in 1 cup of distilled water and proceeding with the enema procedure, holding for up to 6 minutes or as long as you can (this one may be tough to hold)

  • What if I feel worse after a coffee enema?

    • It’s not the caffeine! This means the liver/bile duct system is extremely clogged up. Symptoms/reactions from coffee enemas tend to be earlier on in your usage of this strategy and tend to improve. You may continue to do the coffee enemas and try using half the amount of liquid (1 cup for 2 rounds) or use half the amount of coffee grounds. You might also want to try a plain water enema for a few cycles.
